What is it?
Google Places is the latest way Google is helping internet users get relevant "local" search results.
It's very popular in the US and Canada and it's on it's way to the UK as more UK search results are displaying Google Places results.

How it works:
Google is now using a users Ip address to work out where the user is when they make a search. Then Google returns results of local businesses relevant to the user in the form of Google Places listings at the top of the first page. When a user clicks on a Google Places listing they go to that business's "Google Places" page. This "Places" page is a special page Google allows the business to create and maintain with the business address, services, photos, videos and ratings by customers etc.
